    UK-Wide Delivery

If you're looking at Perkins engines for sale, something has probably let go and a machine is parked up. It might be a telehandler in the yard, a dumper that should be out on hire, or a narrowboat tied up mid-trip. Send us the engine number and we'll tell you what fits, what it costs and when it can be with you.

Commercial Engines supplies reconditioned, remanufactured, used and new Perkins engines across the UK. Most of the enquiries we get are for the 1100 Series (1104 and 1106) and the older 1000 Series (1004 and 1006), followed by the 400 Series compact engines and classic units like the 4.108, 4.236 and Prima. We also rebuild Perkins engines in our workshop when keeping your original block makes more sense than swapping it.

Which Perkins Have You Got? Start With the Engine Number

Two Perkins engines that look the same can differ in fuel pump, turbo, sump, flywheel housing, power rating and emissions stage. The same 1104 can sit in a tractor, a telehandler and a compressor with a different build in each. Ordering by model name alone is how people end up with an engine that won't bolt in.

So we work from the engine number. You'll find it on a label or plate on the side of the cylinder block. On 1000 and 1100 Series engines, the first two letters give the engine type and the digits after them the build list, which tells us exactly what was fitted at the factory. Older engines such as the 4.108 use a shorter number. Send a clear photo of the plate, plus the make and model of the machine, and we'll check the build before we quote.

    • Engine number and build list checked before we quote
    • Sump, flywheel housing and mounts matched to the machine
    • Emissions stage confirmed where it matters for the machine
    • Ancillaries agreed up front: what moves over, what's included
Stock confirmed and priced the same day you enquire.

    Perkins 1100 Series: 1104 and 1106

The 1104 (4.4 litre, four cylinder) and 1106 (6.6 litre, six cylinder) are the engines we're asked about most. They power a large share of the UK's mid-size farm and construction machinery, from Massey Ferguson tractors to telehandlers, compressors and rollers, and the genset versions run standby generators. The letter in the model code matters. C-suffix engines (1104C, 1106C) are mostly EU Stage II and mechanical. D-suffix engines are mostly Stage IIIA, and the electronic D builds, with an E in the code such as the 1106D-E66TA, need an ECU set up for the machine. Caterpillar has owned Perkins since 1998, and CAT's C4.4 and C6.6 industrial engines are close relatives of the 1104D and 1106D, which helps when you're tracing parts.

    • Reconditioned 1104 and 1106 engines, with exchange options where available
    • Remanufactured Perkins engines for high-hours fleet and hire machines
    • Used 1100 Series engines for machines that don't justify the cost of a rebuild
    • New engines where the machine is under warranty or a new unit is required
    • Genset-rated 1100 Series builds for generators

    Perkins 1000 Series: 1004 and 1006

The 1004 (four cylinder) and 1006 (six cylinder) came before the 1100 Series and are still common in older tractors, site dumpers, forklifts and generators. Most builds use mechanical fuel injection, which makes them a good candidate for reconditioning: with no ECU to match, a rebuilt 1004 is about as simple as a Perkins gets to keep running. If your original block is sound, a workshop rebuild can cost less than a replacement and keeps the exact build your machine left the factory with.

Perkins 400 Series for Compact Plant and Generators

The 400 Series covers small two, three and four cylinder diesels (402, 403 and 404), found in mini excavators, small rollers, lighting towers, welders and compact generator sets. The 403C is the one we see most. We supply replacement 400 Series engines and can advise whether a rebuild or a swap is the better spend on an older compact machine.

Classic and Marine Perkins: 4.108, 4.236, 6.354 and Prima

Plenty of Perkins engines from the 1960s to the 1990s are still running, particularly in boats. The Perkins 4108 went into thousands of yachts and narrowboats, the 4.154 into larger yachts and workboats, the Perkins 4.236 into tractors, boats and industrial machines, and the 6.354 into workboats and bigger vessels. The 2.0 litre Perkins Prima found its way into small cruisers and narrowboats as the Prima M50. On newer workboats you'll find the M92B, a marinised 1104. Complete replacements for the older engines are getting harder to find. Often the better route is a rebuild of your existing engine, or a modern replacement with the right mounts and couplings. If you're looking for Perkins marine engines for sale, tell us the boat and the engine number and we'll say which route makes sense. Our narrowboat engines page covers modern alternatives for canal boats.

Reconditioned Perkins Engines: What a Proper Job Includes

Reconditioned can mean anything from a full rebuild to a wash and a coat of paint, so ask any supplier, us included, exactly what was replaced. On a reconditioned Perkins engine, a proper job should include:

    • Full strip-down, clean and crack check of block and cylinder head
    • Bores honed or re-sleeved, with new pistons and rings as needed
    • Crankshaft checked, reground where required, with new main and big-end bearings
    • Cylinder head skimmed, valves and seats recut or replaced
    • New gaskets, seals and oil pump checked or replaced
    • Injectors and fuel pump tested, and the engine run before despatch

Perkins Diesel Engine Price: What Changes the Cost

There isn't one price for a Perkins diesel engine, because a 403C for a mini digger and an 1106D for a telehandler are very different jobs. We'll quote every option that fits your machine so you can compare. The things that move the price most:

    • Model and build: six cylinder and electronic engines cost more than small mechanical ones
    • Condition: used, reconditioned, remanufactured or new
    • Exchange: returning your old engine as a core usually brings the price down
    • Ancillaries: whether the turbo, injection pump, starter and alternator are included
    • Availability: common 1104 and 1106 builds are easier to supply than obsolete engines

    Reconditioned, Remanufactured, Used or New?

The right choice depends on the machine, how hard it works and how long you plan to keep it.
