Used Diesel Engines for Sale — Inspected & Tested UK-Wide
Budget-conscious diesel engine replacement without cutting corners on inspection. Every used engine we supply is assessed, run-tested, and supplied with a written 3-month warranty — delivered anywhere in the UK.
Used diesel engines are the right choice for budget-first replacements, low-value or older vehicles and machinery, or situations where getting back to work quickly at minimum cost is the priority. The key is sourcing from a supplier who actually inspects what they sell — not a parts dealer who cleans an engine and calls it tested.
Every used engine we supply has been assessed for compression, oil pressure, and external condition before listing. We don't sell engines we wouldn't put in our own vehicles. Each unit comes with a written 3-month warranty and a full inspection record — so you know exactly what you're getting before you commit.
The Difference Between an Inspected Used Engine and a Gamble
The used diesel engine market is full of engines sold on description alone — low mileage claimed, condition unknown. We don't operate that way. Every engine in our used stock has been run, had compression and oil pressure recorded, and been checked for obvious wear indicators before it's available to sell.
We record the findings and share them with you. If an engine has a known issue or wear indicator, we'll tell you rather than hope you don't notice after delivery. That's the only way we can warrant what we supply.
- Compression readings recorded and provided
- Oil pressure checked at operating temperature
- External inspection for wear, leaks, and damage
- Written inspection record supplied with engine

When a Used Engine Is the Right Choice
A used diesel engine is the correct choice in several situations: when the vehicle or machinery is low-value and a reconditioned engine isn't economically justified; when the engine is needed for a short-term or temporary application; when budget is the primary constraint and the 3-month warranty coverage is sufficient for the use case. For long-term fleet assets or critical machinery, we'd usually recommend stepping up to a reconditioned unit.
- Older or lower-value vehicles not justifying reconditioned engine cost
- Temporary or short-duration machinery replacement
- Budget-constrained situations where cost is the priority
- Agricultural or plant machinery in lower-intensity use
- Donor engines for rebuild or parts supply

Used Engine Exchange Programme
If you have a serviceable core engine — even if it needs work — we operate an exchange programme on many engine types. Your old engine returned as a core can reduce the cost of your replacement significantly, and helps us maintain our reconditioned engine supply for other customers. Ask about exchange pricing when you enquire.
Used, Reconditioned, or New — Which Fits Your Situation?
The right choice depends on the asset value, downtime tolerance, and budget available.
| Option | Typical Cost | Warranty | Lead Time | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Used | Lowest | 3 months | From stock | Budget-first, lower-value assets |
| Reconditioned | Mid-range | 12 months parts & labour | 2–5 working days | Working fleets, proven spec |
| New | Highest | OEM warranty | Variable (sourced) | Zero-compromise replacements |
*Every engine — regardless of condition — is supplied with a written inspection record and formal warranty documentation.

We needed a stop-gap engine for a Transit while we decided whether to keep the van. Commercial Engines had a used 2.4 TDCi in stock, sent over the compression readings before I committed, and it was on the van the next day. Exactly what we needed — no surprises.
